JYJ announces world tour + Jaejoong to be its director

JYJ is gearing up to embark on a large-scale world tour.
The trio is planning to resume their overseas promotions in April by hosting the ‘JYJ World Tour Concert in 2011‘, which will visit five Asian countries and five North American cities. Resuming promotions for their album, “The Beginning“, the boys will hold concerts in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, New York, L.A., Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Canada.
Jaejoong specifically will be in charge of  directing the concerts in Asia. He has previously directed certain stage productions, even partaking in the visual effects component with the other staff members for their last concerts in Korea, U.S., and Japan.
A representative from C-JeS Entertainment stated, “Jaejoong’s interest in directing concerts has been growing. After proving his credibility by directing some performances in previous concerts, we named him as one of the directors of our world tour“.
Before embarking on the epic tour, JYJ is planning to hold a fan meeting in March, in celebration of ‘White Day’.

Courts order SM Entertainment to pay compensation for hindering JYJ’s activities

On February 21st, the Seoul Central District Court has ordered SM Entertainment to pay compensation to JYJ for indirectly restricting and hindering their activities.
The court stated, “SM Entertainment should not have hindered JYJ’s celebrity activities. For this violation, we demand that SM Entertainment pay JYJ $17,000 USD for every time they have obstructed or will obstruct JYJ’s activities.”
They continued, “Even though a preliminary decision was made on October 27th 2009 to nullify their exclusive contracts, SM Entertainment conducted a press conference on November 11th 2009, through which they stated that JYJ must still abide by the terms of their exclusive contract. Additionally on October 2nd 2010, the agency sent certified requests to Warner Music Korea, requesting to stop the production and distribution of JYJ’s world-wide album.”
“We recognize these acts as impeding on JYJ’s celebrity activities and made the decision to put down this order.”
The CEO of Cjes EntertainmentPark Chang Ju, expressed, “There remains a lot of mountains we must cross. It’s still a frustrating situation, where we must overcome even more barriers for JYJ to meet the public.”

Astro Nextgen Contentpreneur Awards 2010 - Revolutionary Documentary

Seeding future content creators

Thursday, December 16th, 2010 09:52:00
This is the third year for Astro Nextgen Contentpreneurs Awards (NCA), and the organisers are beginning to see what they have done right and what was wrong. The good is that they can now strive to make it better, with innovative new deals set in place for the winners of the awards.
The NCA, which is used by some parties - namely the Multimedia Development Corporation and Astro - as a spawning pool of sorts to identify future talents, has always focused on providing a platform for more quality young people to dive into the wonderful world of content creation.

"For the past two years, we have waited for them to say, 'I want to be a contentpreneur', but perhaps that was too optimistic. They treat this more as a competition than a platform," said Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd executive director Zainir Aminullah in an interview before the awards night.
"Usually, entries are a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. A lot of winners didn't even want to pursue a career in content development. They go back and work with their families or get another job in another industry."
Zainir laments the high attrition rate of students and contestants in the business as well as the NCA.
Students who take courses such as broadcasting, media arts, film, mass communication, video and audio production, web designing and graphic design - all eligible to take part in NCA - would often find other calling.
"There have been exceptions - winners who band together and start their own companies or their own projects," said Zainir. "But we are looking to see more."
Zainir and gang are looking at altering the paradigms of the NCA in order to make it a more effective platform. In the past, the NCA only manages to give away RM10,000 for each winner as perhaps the only significant physical contribution or injection into the fresh pool of talent, aside from the exposure.
This time around, NCA is coming up with new mentor programmes and opportunities for winners.
"Some of the winners will have their work commissioned, while some will be mentored by our teams and divisions," he said.
In the past, the winner of a short film category was given a TV deal, and NCA hopes to make it a wider offering, with several winners be entered into mentorship programmes (for a full detail of the commitments, please see winners list).
"Some of these people need to see safety nets, and while some have been absorbed into production houses or even here at Astro internally, that is not our aspiration.
"We realise that some need guidance, so that is what we are offering. For the first one to two years in the industry, if they haven't been discouraged by the horror stories and amount of work, we will try and give them the right footing."

However, Zainir does not believe that any content creators should rely on local broadcasters.
"We don't want them to be dependent and there is a limit as to how much help and support can be given. The aim is to get them noticed internationally, with world-class skills and products."
Basically, the cost for good quality content is always high and broadcasters can only spend so much for local content developers to be solely reliant on the local market.
Using a more global market network is indeed a more viable solution. Selling content internationally means selling it to international broadcasters or TV stations, cinemas, DVDs in other countries.
He does not believe this is impossible, as it has happened before in the animation industry, when you take India, Korea and China into consideration.
"India, for example, used to be the go-to place for animation due to talent and low-costs. They grew to become a hub due to their outsourcing work. They have improved so much that they are no longer cheap and is considered seriously in the animation world."
Some Indian companies are reported to have even been bought by US giants, or have their stakes purchased - a testament to India's growth as a talent pool. Furthermore, it is only getting more vibrant. According to Variety, Technicolor Digital Productions this year took sole ownership of India-based Paprikaas Studio early this year, which used to be co-owned by Dreamworks.
That kind of vibrancy and vitality can only happen in a big-enough industry, and the industry can only grow if there is a steady influx of new ideas and new talents.
"Yes, we do it for our own needs, as we want better products, better content," said Zainir. "However, we also do it for the long-term goals, by creating a richer talent pool." He hopes that NCA will feed into that pool.
Well, the hopes and dreams of Zainir, Astro, NCA and subsequently the entire Malaysian creative industry lies in many hands. Some of them, hopefully, will come from these winners.
May the light shine forever.

The Last Day of February

Chap Goh Meh. A.k.a. Chinese Valentine's :) We (obviously) didn't get to celebrate Valentine's day this year, so I thought: Why not celebrate on Chinese Valentine's? :)

Went to look for bay, then went to Alamanda. Manhattan Fish Market again! Seems like every time we go there, we never fail to go to Manhattan Fish Market. Either that, or Kenny Rogers. Can we have something else next time please? ;p

His foot hasn't recovered, so we skipped watching movie, and bought a DVD at Speedy's instead. Headed back to his house for a home movie :)

Just 3 words. WHAT THE EFF??? Even a blind person can see that they ain't the Wilson sisters I mean, come on.. They are HUGE! And FUGLY! @@ But he really loves the milk powder joke -.= Go watch it if you have no idea what I'm saying.

From his iPhone heehee

He's so happy, cuz he was mouse hunting

Some shots I took the other day, edited with his iPhone :)

CNY + Sybil Wrap Party

Went to Putrajaya for bay's CNY reception yestersday. They ate, they gambled, they went crazy. Haha.

Some kinda chicken curse to put on the 庄家 haha

Left early to go to Red to prepare for Sybil Potluck Wrap Party! Helped Aini to set up the place, then freshened up at the office and we were ready to kick start the night. So happy to see almost all of the Sybil team again. The night was spiced up by Bernard (Chauly), who organized an auction and an awards show. The auction featured props used in Sybil that he bought from UK. Those one pound items were auctioned off at high price. People are so generous! Prolly cuz they were vintage items and had historical value. Bernard didn't want to bring those items back to UK, so the proceeds of the auction were donated to an orphanage that the late Sybil supported very much :')

We also had a special screening that night, courtesy of Farra's (editor) hard work. The opening montage was shown (longer than usual but damn touching), as well as the behind of clips. OMG HILARIOUS!! xD Missed the times in Ipoh right there right then. The theme song, Biar Waktu, sung by Nikki, was melancholic and moved everyone on the floor.

To lighten up the party, I specially burned 2 CDs containing songs that we sang and heard and performed the entire time in Ipoh. Ahh.. Brings back so much memories. And it was fun to watch Umie, Pikki and Farid performing Oh Happy Day and I'd Do Anything :)

Had tonne tonne tonne tonne TONNES of fun!!! :D It was a total blast and I enjoyed myself so much, there really wasn't any time to take pictures haha. There was unlimited flow of alcohol too but who says you can't get high without them ;) Danced like a mad woman but totally enjoyed myself to the max! Partied with blasting music till about 2, and when the rest of them went off for clubbing, I stayed behind with Aini to clear the entire place @@ Reached home at 4 and slept at 5.30. Tired like a dog but it was an awesome AWESOME night.

I won an award! Sybil was awarded the George Medal award for bravery before her death. So in honour of her, Bernard created the Sybil Ribbon Award haha.

Best Weather Girl Award :p
